Dish Network wins ruling in Auto Hop dispute – FierceCable

Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) scored an early victory in its dispute with Fox and other broadcasters attempting to kill its Auto Hop ad skipping technology, with a federal judge in New York issuing a temporary restraining order Wednesday that will stop the networks from pursuing lawsuits against the satellite TV company until a hearing in July.

  1. While I wouldn’t necessarily call it a victory, I would say that it is a good thing for Dish. Some of my coworkers from Dish and I have been watching the news very intently to see how this Auto Hop thing will play out in court. Personally I think the suits are frivolous because anyone with a DVR has been skipping commercials for years now. As a viewer I love Auto Hop because I don’t have a lot of time to enjoy my favorite shows. Now that I don’t have to sit through commercials I can actually squeeze in a few extra episodes in the limited time I do have.

  2. I don’t understand why CBS, FOX, & NBC execs don’t want us to enjoy commercial-free TV. I’m a DISH employee – AutoHop is great because you can easily watch commercial-free TV. Public Knowledge, a consumer advocacy group, is taking a stand for consumers by creating a petition that tells CBS, FOX, & NBC media to keep their hands out of your living room & DVR. Sign their petition to keep control of how you watch TV
