Dish to TV nets: We pay you, so our customers can skip your ads — paidContent

This media litigation is so hot, you need a multituner DVR to follow all of the action. (Just don’t skip the ads.)

On Friday, NBCUniversal and CBS Corp. filed separate federal lawsuits against Dish Network. They joined Fox, which filed its own suit against the satellite TV service provider Thursday, in claiming Dish’s new “AutoHop” digital video recorder feature infringes on their copyrights by deleting their commercials.

  1. Thanks for the link to that Paid Content article, it was very interesting. I think I have to agree with David Shull on this one. I have always fast forwarded through commercials be it with a VCR or a DVR. Auto Hop doesn’t delete commercials, it just automates the process I already go through to skip the commercial playback. Working late nights at Dish I don’t have a lot of time to watch Primetime shows but thanks to Auto Hop I can squeeze in a few more episodes with the time I do have. In the end I think the argument is absurd anyway because I already pay for those channels through Dish so I am not impacting “free over the air TV” in any way.
